Overview

Our client requires a Business Solutions Lead - E-business Corridor Management & Corporate Solutions. The Business Solutions Lead (BSL) position is a senior role within the Information Services (IS) department which serves as the primary Business Solutions liaison between IS and their business partners. The intent of the position is to provide a key contact point between our client's other business departments and the IS organization regarding leveraging technology and information technology usage (issues, projects, new requirements, etc.). The position champions the technology planning efforts within an assigned domain while ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide strategic objectives and standards.

To accomplish their objectives, the BSL develops and sustains strong trust-based relationships with the business unit(s) leaders. This is accomplished through a sound business acumen, effective business relationships, participation in project delivery and monitoring of IS service delivery. It also requires the effective management of expectations and business opportunities to ensure alignment with organizational priorities.

The BSL provides overall stewardship of business-driven IS work, including ensuring prioritization of requests/projects, and business satisfaction with IS solutions delivered. They act as an advocate of IS projects and services with the business departments, including communication/consultation regarding corporate IS projects, awareness/education on IS service offerings, and informing about IS policies and practices (planning, financial, project management, security, architecture etc.).

This position ensures that business leadership is kept apprised of new technological developments and competitive activities appropriate to their domain. The BSL will be responsible for a "domain" or functional units which may cross organizational and working boundaries. This BSL role will have the above responsibilities as they pertain to Corridor & Corporate Services departments which includes the following groups: Human Resources, Public Relations & Communications, Learning & Development, Corridor Management and Health, Safety and Environment.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular discussions with business leadership regarding new opportunities, issues and technology solutions.
  • Capturing and assessing opportunities by conducting feasibility analyses, consulting SME's (business and IS), determining business/technology value and cost-benefit, documenting findings/recommendations. This includes the building/overseeing of solid business cases for proposed solutions.
  • Ensuring promising opportunities are pursued by stewarding them through project initiation/approval process as per the client IS Project methodologies. Create and obtain approval for project initiation documents as required.
  • Monitoring and overseeing IS project execution as project sponsor or steering committee member.
  • Advising/coaching Project Managers regarding business needs, organizational concerns, risks, etc.
  • IS Service Success - Focused IS delivery on efforts that achieve the best business/IS value through:
  • Understanding and monitoring all IS work being performed for assigned business partners, including break/fix work, general support/enhancements and project work
  • Ensuring business partners are actively involved in prioritizing IS project work.
  • Coaching/mentoring IS resources as appropriate (in a Matrix organization) regarding business requirements/scope and approach of planned projects.
  • Following up with business partners to ensure customer satisfaction with service delivery and measuring the success factors of project deliverables.
  • Relationship Management - Strong relationships between IS and business departments, enabling IS solution delivery, as well as business awareness and commitment to IS goals by
  • Establishing and developing effective business relationships between business and IS staff that are cordial, professional and productive.
  • Participating in the business unit's management activities and planning sessions.
  • Communicating regularly with the business to ensure issues, priorities and expectations are mutually understood. Driving resolution of business partner's concerns quickly and effectively.
  • Acting as key point of contact for IS issues with assigned business areas. Being accountable for overall IS-business relationship management.
  • Ensuring business partners are aware of and buy into corporate IS initiatives that require their participation.
  • Identifying areas in which improved organizational communication is needed and partner with other BSLs to implement those changes.
  • Managing the business component of technology planning efforts for assigned domain. Participating in all relevant planning activities. Developing an Information Technology plan for assigned domain.
  • Ensuring alignment between technology strategy and standards and the business unit's specific requirements.
  • Analyzing technology trends with respect to the business unit/domains value and helping to drive improvement.
  • Demonstrating a positive, proactive attitude, with the ability to manage business change and the challenge of engaging business units and IT personnel collaboratively.
  • Portfolio Management - Completing business solution "roadmaps" that describe medium and long-term plans for systems in each business area through:
  • Defining (with business solutions architect) the "To Be" states for business solutions/applications.
  • Completing business solution "roadmaps" that describe medium (12 months) and long-term plans (3 years) for systems in each business area. Include the financial and resourcing implications and business justification for the proposed technology initiatives.
  • Calculating and monitoring a project's ROI over time. Reporting back to the Steering Committee on intended and achieved results; identifying gaps and developing or initiating gap closure plans.

The BSL is responsible for initiating and obtaining approval for business-driven IS projects and has a Financial Authority Category of 4.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education (degree or diploma) in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of related experience, including systems/application development and support, business systems analysis, and systems project leadership/management.
  • Experience in a line management and/or customer relationship management role in an IS organization.
  • Experience with systems/application/data planning and architecture.
  • Experience or knowledge of corporate management operations, corridor/land management would be an asset.
  • Experience or knowledge of and gas pipeline operations and would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of general IS processes/practices including SDLC, PMO, IS CSOx and ITIL.
  • Working experience with SAP would be an asset.
  • Understanding of geospatial data and data management techniques would be an asset.
  • Technical working experience with SAP HR, SharePoint and Customer Relationship Management Solutions would be an asset.
  • Business working experience with Information Management and would be an asset.

Position Description:

  • 1+ years providing level one support of Microsoft (MS) XP operating system (MS Vista and Mac OS X preferred), MS Office Suite 2003 & 2007 including Outlook, IE 6 & 7 (Safari and Firefox preferred), Email messaging (Exchange and Lotus Notes), Active Directory, networking, and hardware (laptops, desktops, peripherals, and Blackberry devices).

The Software Licensing Consultant (SLC) is responsible for driving opportunities from the identification to client presentation stages for the designated manufacturer(s) for Insight. This will be achieved through proactive efforts in driving the manufacturer's information down to the account rep level as well as tracking and assisting in closing of opportunities at the rep and team levels. Activities may involve support duties in the sales and qualification cycles during the identification, awareness, consideration, preference, presentation, quotation, and post-sales client care stages.

The Specialist will also recommend optimal configurations for the client's environment, and possess the ability to present technical scenarios and solutions that solve the client's business problems. The Specialist is required to be up to date on all applicable product lines, all manufacturer programs, distribution programs and Insight programs that are applicable to the manufacturer(s) that can assist in closing business. The ideal candidate will be self motivated, partner well with Insight's sales force, have excellent time management & presentation skills, and capable of working independently with minimal direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Selling activities to drive revenue for designated manufacturer(s)
  • Work open quote list with the appropriate sales associate
  • Proactively engage in client calls and providing assistance in closing specific business opportunities
  • Assist with and participate in client presentations: electronic, phone, face to face, etc.
  • Provide updated open quotes, forecast, sales pipeline data on regular basis to include: quote tracking, order tracking, close ratio, number of calls, open opportunities, etc.
  • Provide answers to pre-sales technical questions for Insight sales executives and customers on defined category
  • Understand and actively promote the use of bid desk, promotions, trade-in programs and other sales incentive programs
  • Provide frequent feedback to Product Management, Bid Desk and Purchasing to ensure appropriate programs, promotions and tools are in place to ensure success at the customer level
  • Coordinate manufacturer lead opportunities provided by the manufacturer for managed account business
  • Work with Product Management to ensure coordination with manufacturer's field sales force and our field sales team
  • Evangelize assigned products and programs and information through participation in sales team meetings
  • Manages and tracks warranty renewals, maintenance contracts, and warranties as applicable to their manufacturer/assigned product lines (if applicable to line)
  • Perform leadership role in conjunction with account representatives to proactively communicate renewals with target client accounts
  • Contribute to sales support tools creation and maintenance to ensure effective client account support and communications across the organization eg flow charts, scorecards, checklists, profile sheets, revenue tracker, etc.
  • Contribute to and participate in manufacturer sales meetings, reviews and other select initiatives

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a product or services sales role
  • Computer hardware/software knowledge is required
  • Willingness and ability to learn technical and/or product information that will provide the necessary skill set required in support of field sales
  • Knowledge of the sales process combined with experience in establishing relationships with sales representatives are desired
  • MCP designation preferred but not mandatory.
  • MCITP certification
  • High school diploma and post secondary education required
  • Post secondary diploma or degree or equivalent related industry experience is preferred but not mandatory
  • Manufacturer sales certifications a plus
  • Needs to be able to complete sales certification training per manufacturer/Insight requirements per schedule set forth upon starting in this position
